After many years of hiring studio spaces and working in health clubs, I now teach from my home studio in north London. This means that the classes are smaller however I enjoy creating a community feel that comes with the smaller size. I currently teach 12 classes online which has resulted in half of my studio being taken up with sound and lighting equipment! I certainly did not not forsee this!
I always tell my attendees that they are not just learning to do Pilates within a class each week and to think about incorporating the Pilates principles into their everyday movement throughout the week. For example being aware of their posture and movement whilst carrying out everyday tasks.
My favourite is the bridge. This is because it is both a strength and flexibility exercise but also opens the chest which allows more space for breathing which in turn enhances the feeling of relaxation.
I have enjoyed teaching in various teaching environments, working in some of London's leading health clubs. Homes place Chelsea, Neils Yard in Covent Garden and the Laboratory N10. I called my home studio urban calm with the aim of creating a tranquil environment within the hustle and bustle of a large city. I hope to continue some of my work in schools where I also teach teen yoga. I enjoy continuing my training every year with well known and inspiring teachers.
I am happy teaching my regular classes, spending time with my clients and hope that this continues for the next 5 years.
I have always loved being fit and active and have tried most sports, however after receiving several injuries through running I decided to give pilates a go. I immediately became hooked and just couldn't get enough of it. I then took up yoga and barre too. I loved the change to my body but also my mind and the way an hour of pilates could take away the stresses of the day. I decided as I was spending so much of my time at the studio, I might as well train to become a pilates teacher...best decision I've ever made!View instructor >
I believe that exercise should be enjoyable and Pilates was the obvious choice for me. I love the fact it works the muscles hard, whilst being low impact and gentle on the joints. I like my classes to be friendly and welcoming, with everyone working to their own level and ability - with gentle encouragement thrown in too. I like to have fun with my classes and encourage feedback from clients to keep me on my toes too!View instructor >
